If there’s one thing Austin knows how to do well, it’s the holiday season. From festivals and trails of light to holiday musicals and visiting with Santa, there’s always something to enjoy during the season in Austin.
A Christmas Affair starts on November 20th and runs through November 24th at the Palmer Events Center. This premier five-day shopping extravaganza boasts over 200 unique merchants from across the nation. In its 44th year, this Austin tradition begins the weekend before Thanksgiving so, if you have family in town, this is a great way to keep them occupied while you get started on Christmas shopping too.
Benefiting Operation Blue Santa, the Chuy’s Christmas Parade takes place in Downtown Austin on November 30th. Bring your new and unwrapped toys to the Capitol at 11th and Congress, then enjoy the festivities.
The Austin Trail of Lights is another Austin tradition that you don’t want to miss. Returning for the 55th year, this spectacular light show attracts thousands of people each year. The trail opens on December 10th for two weeks.
If you’re looking to spend some time on the water during this holiday season, you’ll enjoy the Lake Travis Lighted Boat Parade. Taking place on the first Saturday of December, on the 7th, this is the 6th year the event has been held. Don’t have a boat? No worries, there are several places to watch the parade from, such as Dink Pearson Park or Lakeway Resort and Spa.
